Guided tours of the Old Theatre Royal are available throughout the year.
Tours commence at the following times:
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 11am & 2.30pm
Saturday at 2.30pm only
Guided tours of our historical listed building take approximately 1 hour. Visitors have the opportunity to stand on the very stage where Sarah Siddons, the finest Tragic Actress of all time, received the adulation of her audiences. The tour will then go backstage to see the original 18th Century Scenery Loft.
The tour also visits the chapel where Bishop Baines prepared before delivering his fiery sermons. Then groups can enter the vaults below. This is where exiled French nobility were once buried.
Additionally, visitors will experience the ambience of one of the grandest Masonic Halls in the country. Finally the tour concludes in the Edward Gayner Museum. The museum is home to possibly one of the finest collections of rare Masonic Artefacts in the World.
